Color Trends

Every forecast discussion on interior design trends isn’t complete without touching on new colors. The following is our summary.

Evergreen Fog. Breezeway. October Mist. These are what Sherwin-Williams, Behr, and Benjamin Moore respectively, have declared as the color of the year for 2022. What do they all have in common? They are all a very similar shade of light greenish-gray. The color trends of 2022 reflect the needs of the times.

To that point, Sherman Williams is describing Evergreen Fog as “a versatile and calming hue of green meets gray with just a bit of blue. Consumers were seeking nourishing, meaningful, reassuring, and healing colors,” shared Wadden, Sherwin-Williams’ Director of Color Marketing. “Organic, nature-inspired palettes like warm brown and cool green tones were essential to achieving a restorative state and satisfying a need for “energizing positivity.” In the coming years, color will continue to trend towards supporting physical and emotional wellbeing—a notion that ties in with the popularity of biophilic design.”

Buyers are looking for respite, safety, comfort, and wellness in their homes. As a result, we are seeing light greens, blues, and neutrals as the primary color trends. We are also seeing terra cotta colors reminiscent of the desert. And, sunset-inspired hues of soft oranges, apricots, peach, and yellows in various shades from brights to coppers.

We are excited to be incorporating these calming and restorative colors into our designs.
