The Grandview, perched dramatically on the Hudson River in Poughkeepsie, New York, has long been a premier wedding and event venue in Dutchess County. Over the years, however, the interior needed a fresh vision to reclaim its status as the go-to spot for unforgettable “Weddings on the Hudson.” Bonura Hospitality turned to the award-winning team at Lita Dirks & Co. for the redesign and merchandising.

We recently sat down with Mike Bonura to discuss the project, the challenges, the collaborative process, the surprises (or lack thereof), and the impressive results.

Interviewer: Mike, can you describe the initial challenges or goals you had for the renovation and interior design of The Grandview, and how Lita Dirks & Co. helped address them?

Mike Bonura: Our venue had historically been the place for a wedding in Dutchess County, NY, overlooking the Hudson River, but too much time had passed since construction. We needed help with a re-imagination of the interior of the space to get it back to the forefront of people’s minds when it comes to Weddings on the Hudson. Given our relationship with the Lita Dirks team, we had the utmost faith in their ability to lead this project and help us be proud of our venue once again.

Interviewer: What aspects of the design process stood out to you—things like collaboration, concept development, or material selections?

Mike Bonura: The open lines of communication and collaboration throughout the design process made the project run seamlessly. Our position as a client is a bit unique as we are both the General Contractor self-performing the entire renovation project as well as the end user operating the venue at completion. That said, the design process is almost a design-build process even though we are not physically in construction at the time as we know how the construction process will work. The Lita Dirks team produces flawless comprehensive drawings and schedules from which the construction process flows efficiently and smoothly.

Interviewer: Were there any unexpected hurdles during the renovation phase, and how did the team at Lita Dirks & Co. navigate them to keep the project on track?

Mike Bonura: The open lines of communication and collaboration throughout the design process made the project run seamlessly.

Interviewer: How has the completed renovation impacted the functionality, aesthetics, and overall appeal of the venue for weddings and events?

Mike Bonura: The answer lies in the numbers—once completed, we have had the two best sales seasons in the history of our venue. Customers love the new look and feel—and are signing the contracts to prove it!

Interviewer: Looking back, what would you say was the most valuable part of your experience working with Lita Dirks & Co., and would you recommend them to others in the hospitality industry?

Mike Bonura: The collaborative nature of the design process, the flawless installation of FF&E [furniture, fixtures, and equipment], and the terrific plans and schedules from which to build.

This renovation has clearly paid off, breathing new life into The Grandview and reinforcing its place as a top Hudson Valley wedding destination. Thanks to Mike Bonura for sharing these insights, it’s clear that strong partnerships and thoughtful design can make all the difference in hospitality. If you’re planning an event with those unbeatable river views, The Grandview’s refreshed spaces are ready to impress.
