Interior design is an ever-evolving field, with new trends emerging each year. However, there are certain design elements that never seem to go out of style. If you missed the International Builders Show, Erin Hurley presented “Exterior and Interior Trends for Authentic and Timeless Designs” with Travis Hendrix from KGA Studio Architects.
Their presentation was STACKED with upcoming trends, but in this blog, we are focusing on four timeless interior design trends that are worth considering when designing your home: layering lighting, natural and raw materials, eclecticism, and biophilia.
- Layering Lighting: Lighting is one of the most important elements of interior design, and layering different types of lighting can add depth, interest, and versatility to your home. This includes a combination of ambient lighting (such as dimmers for the dining room chandelier, table, and floor lights), task lighting (such as recessed cans, under-cabinet lighting, and direct overhead pin lights), and accent lighting (such as pendant lights or wall sconces). By layering different types of lighting, you can create a warm, inviting atmosphere in your home.
- Natural and Raw Materials: Another timeless interior design trend is using natural and raw materials. This includes materials like wood, stone, and metal, which add warmth, texture, and a sense of authenticity to your home. In addition, the use of raw materials like exposed brick or concrete helps to create an industrial and urban feel that is both chic and timeless.

- Eclecticism: Eclectic design is all about mixing different styles, textures, and materials to create a unique and personal space. This can include everything from vintage and antique pieces to contemporary furniture and artwork. The key to making an eclectic space work is to choose items that you love and that work well together, rather than trying to match everything perfectly.

- Biophilia: Biophilia is a design trend that incorporates elements of nature into the interior of your home. This can include things like live plants, natural light, and organic textures and patterns. By incorporating elements of nature into your home, you can create a more calming, peaceful, and healthy living environment.
Timeless interior design is all about creating a warm, inviting, and personalized space that reflects your personal style. By embracing the trends of layering lighting, natural and raw materials, eclecticism, and biophilia, you can create a home that is both beautiful and functional, and that will stand the test of time. So why not consider incorporating these timeless design elements into your next model home?
