In the world of interior design, unexpected challenges often test the strength of a team. One such moment came when we were tasked with completing the five-bedroom, three-floor model home for K. Hovnanian’s Horizon Isle in Orlando—just 36 hours before Hurricane Helene was set to make landfall. It was a project that required not only meticulous planning but also an unshakable sense of teamwork, trust, and flexibility.

With Hurricane Helene threatening the area, the clock was ticking. Our team, led by Amy and Callie, worked tirelessly to finish the project. Their remarkable efforts and dedication were nothing short of inspiring, and their ability to stay calm and organized amidst the looming chaos was key to getting the job done. We made sure all the furnishings and materials were positioned as close to the site as possible, minimizing delays and ensuring that we had everything on hand when we needed it.

Trust and respect were the foundation of this endeavor. Working alongside the client’s marketing manager, Susan Moss, and the K. Hovnanian team, we formed a strong, collaborative relationship that enabled us to work quickly and efficiently. The professionalism and goodwill of the client played an enormous role in this project’s success, allowing us to navigate purchasing issues and remain adaptable to last-minute changes.

One thing that made this project particularly successful was our preparedness. Long before the storm clouds gathered, we had a clear plan in place, with every detail mapped out. Our partnership with the builder and onsite construction team proved invaluable, underscoring how crucial it is to begin working together early on in any project. This kind of coordination shortens the design and construction timeline and leads to a more seamless execution. It’s a reminder that it’s never too early to start collaborating, especially when working on large-scale community projects, amenities, and model homes.

While the storm was unpredictable, our team’s ability to adapt and remain focused ensured that we delivered the Horizon Isle model to the highest standard—on time and before the hurricane hit. It was a remarkable example of what can be achieved when trust, teamwork, and preparation come together.

As the holidays approach and we look ahead to future projects, this month is an important reminder of the value of our partnerships and the importance of staying prepared, no matter the challenge. After all, no matter what comes our way, we get it done!
