Each month we sit down with a different designer to get a little insight into them, their process, and the industry as a whole. This month’s dish is courtesy of Senior Designer, Cassy Weber.
In addition to creating award-winning designs, Cassy also manages our intern program and speaks at local colleges and high schools about design. We were able to sit down with her and chat about her love of design and sharing that love with young designers.
LD & Co: What do you enjoy most about running the intern and student program?
Cassy: I am very inspired by all of the creative ideas that the students put together; their passion for design is contagious.
LD & Co: You’ve spoken to a variety of local Colorado schools including Arapahoe Community College, Colorado State University, and Cherry Creek High School to name just a few. Why is speaking at schools so important to you?
Cassy: I think that it is important to support local schools and the students. They are just starting to get their feet wet in the design world. So, speaking and sharing our work in model home merchandising introduces the students to one avenue of interior design. It also helps us to get our name out there to allow students to have an opportunity to intern at LD & Co.
LD & Co: What makes us such a great company to intern for?
Cassy: Interning here at LD & Co is just an overall good experience. You learn so many different elements of design from day to day. You get the opportunity to work with all our designers, so your daily tasks are always different. You’ll also learn so many different aspects of the design process with all the different projects we have going on, from model homes to sales offices, clubhouses, and also multifamily. Truly, our interns never get bored.
LD & Co: You actually started off as an intern at LD & Co. What was your favorite part?
Cassy: That’s true! I started here as an intern over 16 years ago. My favorite thing then (and it’s still true today) was being part of the amazing and creative team. I became close friends with many of the designers, some whom no longer work here. Going on installs was also a great experience; besides seeing the designs come together it allowed me to build closer relationships with the designers and builder team.
LD & Co: Thanks so much for your time Cassy. We are grateful for your ability to mentor and inspire (not to mention your beautiful designs)!
