On September 23rd, we gathered for a final lunch that was more than just a meal. It was a celebration of treasured relationships, of the kind that stretch over decades and leave an indelible mark on both our personal and professional lives. This lunch was particularly special because we were honoring Steve James, who is retiring after a remarkable career.

Our friendship has been built on trust, mutual respect, and the deep understanding that relationships in business are just as essential as those in life. This was a moment to reflect on the lasting partnerships that have been formed along the way.

As we sat together at YaYas, a favorite spot that seems to hold memories of its own, I was reminded of the importance of these connections. In the fast-paced world of business, it’s easy to focus on numbers, results, and outcomes. But it’s the relationships, the trust and friendship we build over time, that truly matter. Steve’s career exemplifies this truth.

Throughout the years, Steve has had a unique ability to paint a vision with his words—a sensitivity and depth that not only crafted a picture of what was possible but also made everyone around him feel seen and heard. His leadership wasn’t just about the business, it was about the emotional effects he created through connection, compassion, and an unwavering sense of purpose.

As we raised our glasses to toast Steve, there was a sense of deep gratitude in the air. Not just for his contributions to the industry but for the way he shaped our lives—his mentorship, friendship, and unwavering support. His retirement marks the end of an era, but the impact of his work and the relationships he built will continue to resonate for years to come.

Trust and friendship are the foundation of any successful relationship, and Steve has taught us all that in business, these values are not just helpful—they are essential. As we said our goodbyes, the emotions were palpable. Steve may be stepping away from the daily grind, but his legacy will remain, carried forward by those of us who were fortunate enough to work alongside him.

Thank you, Steve, for the vision, the trust, and most of all, the friendship. You’ve left a lasting mark on all of us. Here’s to the next chapter.
